Job Description

Establish input/output count,

Evaluate instrument specification sheet,

Review vendor drawings,

Specify flow, temperature, level, pressure, conductivity instruments

Experience with hazardous location requirements and intrinsic safety and instrumentation location plan

Prepare installation details including cable layout.

Prepare loop diagram

Input and coordinate with DCS & PLC system
In addition the Instrument Engineer will ensure the completion of instrumentation activities of the project. The Instrument Engineer will ensure the work is done in accordance with the technical specification and schedule. The Instrument Engineer provide technical assistance to the selected instrumentation construction contractor and coordinate with plant engineering, production, maintenance and HSE personnel.

Requirements
BS Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineer

5 years experience in instrumentation design and field coordination with A/E firm. Must have experience in the mechanical as well electrical aspects of process plant instrumentation.  Experience in  chemicals, petrochemical or energy sector  preferred. The Instrument Engineer will report to E&I Manager.

Travel will be approximately 20% of time, with no travel more than 2 weeks at a time and may include domestic and international.

Job Description
Perform load calculations of three phase low, medium and high (150KV) voltage equipment including transformers, UPS systems, interrupting current, variable speed drives and motors.

  • Calculate fuse and cable size, voltage drop, conduit and cable tray fill, and instantaneous current values.
  • Estimate, conduit/cable lengths, control panel sizes and equipment costs.
  • Design standard grounding systems and equipment.
  • Calculate and specify indoor and outdoor lighting systems (including battery backed lighting systems), UPS systems, backup generators, Motor Control Centers, medium and low voltage switchgear centers.
  • Generate the following types of documents and drawings: scopes of work, general arrangement drawings, process & instrumentation diagram, single line diagram, three line diagram, connection/wiring diagram, elementary diagram, bill of material, panel layout diagram.
  • Specify and design electrical systems within various hazardous area classifications.
  • Specify electrical equipment fire protection systems and components.
  • Specify communication equipment such as telephone and PA systems.

In addition the Electrical Engineer will ensure the completion of electrical activities of project. The Electrical Engineer will ensure the work is done in accordance with the technical specification and schedule. The Electrical Engineer will provide technical assistance to the selected electrical construction contractor and coordinate with plant engineering, production, maintenance and HSE personnel.

Requirements
10 years experience in electrical design with a engineering firm. PE preferred (not required). Experience in chemicals or resins plants preferred. Membership in IEEE is a plus. Knowledge of the latest technology with regard to electrical systems. Familiar with NEC and NEMA codes.
